Ethan McHugo

Ethan specialises in the physics, electronics and engineering sectors of Intellectual Property.
Before entering the patent profession, Ethan graduated from the University of Warwick with a First-Class Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics. Following this, Ethan completed a Master of Science by Research (MSc) in Physics at the University of Bristol, where his research focused on optimising the design of a backscattering interferometry (BSI) apparatus and investigating the suitability of BSI’s application in measuring of the refractive index of extracellular vesicles through analysis of synthetic DOPC vesicles.
Prior to joining Secerna, Ethan gained experience as a Trainee Patent Attorney, building a solid understanding of patent practice and intellectual property law. Combined with his background in advanced physics research, this experience enables him to support clients developing innovative technologies across a broad range of sectors.
Ethan is passionate about helping innovators protect and realise the commercial value of their inventions through effective intellectual property strategies.
