Senior Associate

Jonathan is a Senior Associate at Secerna, having progressed to this role after starting his career in intellectual property with Secerna as a trainee patent attorney in 2017. Jonathan’s main practice is in the engineering, electronics and software sectors.

 

Having obtained a first-class Master’s in Physics followed by a PhD in nanotechnology and its’ use in novel security applications, Jonathan’s technical expertise includes semiconductor fabrication and devices, graphene and other two-dimensional materials, quantum technologies, optomechanical devices, and optical analysis research equipment such as spectrometers. Jonathan’s professional experience has also seen him deal with subject matter involving artificial intelligence and machine learning models and their applications, laundry care and microfibre filtration technology, bespoke vehicular design and manufacture, air-based telecommunications systems, and wind turbine design and analysis.

 

During his time at Secerna, Jonathan has obtained extensive experience of drafting and filing new patent applications and co-ordinating patent prosecution of applications globally. Jonathan has also taken part in multiple oppositions, both offensive and defensive, at the European Patent Office, has conducted freedom to operate and competitor analysis, and has helped many start-ups by performing IP audits to develop their foundational IP strategies.
